Shika Mandala marks a transitional stage in Wakana Kimura’s practice, as her large-scale drawing began to move toward the visual language of Buddhist painting.

Centered on the sacred deer imagery of the Kasuga Mandala tradition, the work brings together references from Buddhist art, animation, Renaissance painting, and mural traditions. These distinct visual languages coexist within a single expansive composition, forming a contemporary field in which the sacred, the historical, and the imagined meet.

鹿曼荼羅は、木村若菜の大型ドローイングが、仏画の視覚言語へと移行していく過渡期に生まれた作品である。

春日大社に伝わる鹿曼荼羅の聖なる鹿を中心的なモチーフとしながら、仏教美術、アニメーション、ルネサンス絵画、壁画など、異なる時代と文化の視覚表現を一つの大画面に交差させている。そこには、聖なるもの、歴史的なもの、想像されたものが共存する、現代の曼荼羅的空間が形成されている。
